I think a while back I saw on the Wilton site, a post by someone named Brenda_1 with instructions on how to make a 3D dog cake. (A very cute one). Try doing a search either for her name or "3D dog" in their forums.

ok this is my all time favorite 3d animal cake. Talmas made it for a competition she entered.

take a look through the galleries "Theme cakes/3D cakes" there is an area in there for animals and there were lots of dogs in there. If you find one you really like I am sure whoever made it would be happy to help.

I have instructions for a 3-D puppy cake. Many Cake Central members have used them to make puppy cakes with great results.

I will e-mail them to you if you like.

My version is a white puppy and is in my photos.

If it's a small dog, maybe cut the round tops off of two cupcakes and stick them together for the head, then build up the bone structure and nose with buttercream, and maybe sculpt the ears out of fondant. Use the VIVA to smooth it out and to 'sculpt' the buttercream for some of the minor features. Carve the body out of a small loaf cake, and build up areas with buttercream to shape. That's what I did for the chihuahua I made and it looked GREAT.
