Can someone tell me how to "soak" a cake with liqueur?

Are you talking sponge or fruit/ basically insert holes with a skewer and put liquid along the cake/ run it around/ wrap with parchment pare and foil and do again in a weeks time. i do not like a lot of alcohol hence I do not put a lot in.
