A woman in DH's office told me last week that she was having a large anniversary party for her parents in August and wondered if I was interested. Of course, I said I was and so she was going to get me the specifics and I would give her a price to compare to her friend's price, a baker, whom she was going to use but the friend lives out-of-town and this woman really wanted someone local. Fine. She showed me a picture of what she and her sisters wanted: a large stacked cake with BC and cornelli lace with gold (for the 50th anniversary) accents. It would be yellow cake with pineapple filling. Fine. To feed 400. YIKES. I didn't even know if you could do a stacked cake that large but I was waiting for more info. I hadn't heard anything in a week so I emailed her today to find out if she still wanted a price from me and she wrote back and said that her "sisters were considering other vendors" and that she would get with me for the next cake she needed. Sigh. I didn't even have a chance to compete, kwim? Oh well. DH doesn't understand why I'm bummed so I told him it would be different if I got turned down for one job and had 20 others waiting to do but that's not the case. I'm just starting out and don't have anyone waiting! Add to that the fact that his company usually orders stuff from me once a month and they didn't this month. Oh, I guess I just had to have a little pity party. icon_sad.gif

It does stink but unfortunately it's part of the game. She could also be getting pressure from family members on this one. People get crazy about these types of events and become control freaks sometimes!

It's hard not to take it personal. I think we
all do. We are all intitled to a Pity party!

I've been there! Keep your chin up. icon_wink.gif You'll get work! Cake decorating jobs are like this, you won't get them all. I know your disappointment all to well. Just keep on chugging away and before you know it you'll probably be plenty busy. thumbs_up.gif

Sorry to hear that this happened to you. I know your feeling. You're starting up, getting orders (or think you are) and then you don't hear anything. I have had that happen to me too, as I am sure everyone on this board has. Unfortunatley it is part of the process of getting more orders. I heard somewhere "Every No gets you closer to a YES!" So, that is what I keep in mind when I am getting no's, or no responses (which seems to be my case).

It will pick up. Give it time.

Oh don't worry, there will be more opportunities coming your way.
It was not meant to be. No need to pity yourself. You'll get a better chance next time. Maybe they just don't know what they really want for now. icon_biggrin.gif
