In looking through the galleries, I see pics I click on. It might say, for example, "favorite of 9 users" yet there are only 3 comments. It would seem to me that if people put it in their favorites, there must be something nice they can say in the comments too!

When I first came on CC I would put pic's in my favorites and not comment because I am not a good decorator and didn't feel comfortable leaving comments. I am still not very good but I realize that people need encouragment and so I leave as many as I can. Also I ask questions about techniques I like and how they did them so I can learn.

A lot of people have trouble with the speed of the site. It's difficult to get the pictures to load in a timely manner, which makes leaving comments difficult.

I noticed that this morning, too....... if someone has time to add it to their favorites, it would only take a second more to say it is pretty, or SOMETHING......

To make it faster for myself...I right click on add to favorites and select open in new window or open in new tab (depending on browser and version). Then I continue leaving my comment in the current window. This works great!

IMHO.......I think that most people don't want to wait for that screen to come up after clicking on "leave comment" and waiting. It simply takes to much time and there are so many great cakes here to see! icon_rolleyes.gif

I agree. I want to leave comments on lots of photos but get frustrated with how long it takes. ARRGGHH.

I have dialup, so speed (especially on this website) is a big issue. Also many of the photos in my favorites are not there because they are really a favorite, but because they are similar to what a customer has asked me for and I use the pic as inspiration. Sometimes I don't use the pics at all, I'm just rounding up ideas and wanting to keep the pics in one spot to look at later.

I guess to me that by adding the cake into my favs I am hoping to use something about it in a cake of mine in the future and I feel like the person who made the cake has every right to know that I LOVE _______ about their cake! icon_smile.gif After all they took the time to make the cake, photo it, edit if needed, post it, make comments, and search keywords. A few extra minutes even on my part should be worth saying hey thanks in advance!

Yes I agree too, waiting for the pictures to download is very irritating and so I move on. A lot of times if I like a cake picture I'll just go to that person web site so that I can view them at a faster speed. Maybe with the new improvements this will change.

There may be brides who have popped in to get cake ideas for their wedding. They are window shopping. They are not addicting to this .... they don't live and breath this .... they are not involved in these conversations regarding "to comment or not to comment". ..... they are getting ideas for their own wedding cake. They could be assigning a photo to a favorite file for this purpose.

I take the fact that someone listed me as a favorite a comment in and of itself. There are hundreds and hundreds of pics on here and for someone to chose mine, WOW!

Sometimes I don't comment because I figured if it was in my favorites, then the person must know I like it for whatever reason icon_redface.gif I didn't realize that not leaving a comment was rude, BUT from now on, I'm leaving comments. I respect everyone on this site and certainly don't want to hurt any feelings/anger/offend anyone. If I have offended anyone, I'm sorry, that was just me thinking everyone should "read my mind" (apparently, according to DH, I have a problem with this).

I usually try to leave a comment on a cake I add to my favorites. I know everyone likes getting comments. But sometimes I dont if there is already a bunch of comments or if I just dont want to wait. I think I actually try to leave comments more on the cakes that dont get saved into many people's favorites. they might be the ones who need a little compliment!

Oh my GOSH...finally someone agrees!

I got a nasty little message from someone on here last week because I said on a picture description, "If you favorite my photos, please leave a comment."

I mean, if someone likes it enough to favorite it, I would at least like to know WHY so I can use that to improve future items.

Number one, I don't usually have time.

Number two, I figure it's redundant to add any of the following comments, all of which are true:
Beautiful!
Awesome!
Incredible!
How did you do that?

Most pictures already have all those great comments added. What the heck can I add at that point?

For me it is the time issue too. My computer is super slow and I usually am not even able to view the galleries, it can take an hour to look at half a dozen pictures so if I started leaving comments I'd be on here all day. It actually takes a long time when I add a pic to my favorites too, so I don't even do that very often.

If think they are talking about the pictures that show favorite of 9 users and there are no comments. And as of yesterday the pictures have been downloading really fast so it is a lot easier. If there are more than 5 comments on a picture I won't comment unless I have something new to add. BUT no one should feel obligated to comment. If you are not sincere there is no point in commenting.

edited to say: just my opinion

I make a vested effort to leave comments on the cakes I save as my favorites, the exception being when there are already 50 or so comments, then sometimes I don't because it's all been said! Even then I usually do leave a comment. This is a highly debated subject on this site, I know a lot of people feel very strongly about it, so I try very hard to leave comments, mostly because I want them too!

I love getting comments and so I make it a rule of my own that if it goes into my faves I leave a comment. If I'm just browsing, I leave comments.

With the addition of the top set of photos (Very popular? Most popular? I forget what it's called), I'm sometimes stunned to see hundreds of people having it in their favorites and 10-20 comments.

I do get that putting it in favorites is a compliment in and of itself but come on already! Who doesn't feel nice when there's an email telling you there's a new comment?

While I sincerely and humbly appreciate any comments left by fellow CC'ers, I am more complimented that it is a favorite. SOmeone thinks so highly of it that they don't want to lose track, they want easy access, they want it retained in their own files, they want to be able to find it quickly. Wow! What kind of statement says more than that!? Thanks, gang!! thumbs_up.gif

Wow, this just keep s coming up. If it really is a an issue for people, why not put in a suggestion to Jackie and Heath that in order for someone to put a pic in their favorites, they must first comment on it. No comment, no favorite. Me personally, would not like that option at all. I have a few pics that are the favorites of well over a hundred people and some may only have 10 comments. It does not bother me in the slightest that for each person that chooses one of my pics as a favorite does not leave a comment. I believe that just the point of someone putting it in their favorites, that shows me that someone likes it and that makes me happy.

But there could be other reasons why people have put pics in their favorites as others have already pointed out. Some people may just put pics in their favorites to gather ideas and then when they are done, may remove it as a favorite. I have had plenty of mine removed as favorites and I think it either comes from people don't want their favorites album so jammed up or they have gotten what they needed and they have moved on.

Do I love getting comments? Oh yeah thumbs_up.gif , but I don't get bothered in the slightest when people make one of my pics a fav an not leave a comment. But, that is just me.

But, then you can twist this around and make this a never ending battle. If someone has taken the time to write a glowing comment, why is it not in their favorites? icon_confused.gificon_wink.gificon_biggrin.gif I have cakes, too, that have more comments than are in people's favorites. WHY?!? Not that good to actually make a fav? icon_cry.gificon_cry.gif Kidding of course... But it really is another way to look at it.

For me getting added as a favorite or getting a comment is awesome. But it is nice to get the printed word that you've done a good job. I try ro leave messages when I can. When I am waiting for the page to come up I am usually chasing after my 9 1/2 month old and I foget what I was doing when I get back to the computer. I will do better in the future, I do know comments mean alot.

I USUALLY TRY TO COMMENT ON ALL I ADD TO MY FAVORITES. IF A CAKE HAS LOTS OF COMMENTS I USUALLY JUST ADD DITTO. IF SOMEONE HAS FEW COMMENTS I FIND WHAT I LIKE ABOUT IT AND SAY SO. I KNOW I AM A BEGINNER AND APPRECIATE IT IF SOMEONE WOULD COMMENT ON MINE ON WHAT I DID RIGHT ON THE CAKE. ACTUALLY, EVEN IF THEY TOLD ME WHAT I COULD DO TO IMPROVE I WOULD LIKE THAT ALSO. I WANT TO LEARN AND ALL COMMENTS ARE WELCOME. I WILL EVENTUALLY GET MORE OF MY CAKES UPLOADED. ALL COMMENTS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME.
