Getting ready to decorate a large batch of cookies. Need to know which you prefer--Antonia's or Toba's glaze ?? I have tried neither, but want an icing that is not rock hard.

So please vote for your favorite, so I can get DeCoRaTiNg !! icon_biggrin.gif

Thanks !!!!!!! thumbs_up.gif

I have not tried Toba's but I absolutely love Antonia's. The taste was great, easy to make and easy to work with.

I love Toba's glaze and have not tried Antonia's. One thing people were finding with Toba's, myself included, was that they take forever to dry and still have a tacky touch to them. They also loose their brilliant shine when dry.

So, Sarah Phillips did some research and it had to do with sugar and milk crystalizing or something. There is a whole thread about it on baking911.com.

She came up with a similiar recipe that replaces some quantities and the milk for water and solved the problem. I have not tried the recipe yet, but here it is...

http://www.baking911.com/recipes/cookies/glaze.htm

There is also this poured fondant I want to try as well;

Another vote for Antonia's icing, although I haven't tried Toba's yet so I can't compare them.

I've been making cookies for about 6 months now, and have given and sold them to lots and lots of people, and without exception people tell me they're perfect and I shouldn't ever change the recipe, LOL!

Some day I do plan to try some of the other recipes, but Antonia's is easy to make, easy to use, and the results have been great for me.

It's in several places here, I think, but I would recommend checking out her tutorial (titled How To Bake And Decorate Cookies) that can be found on the home page or under the Articles tab.

It has the recipe, plus her technique for making awesome looking cookies.

hth!

Okay, my ears were burning!!! icon_twisted.gif Actually Twins ..you are correct...I've only really used buttercream on mine....I haven't branched out into cookies yet.

I did however use Toba's glace once intending to put it on cookies, but I used it for a FBCT instead on my Indian's jersey cake...I loved working with it.

I'd like to try Toba's sometime when I have time for it to dry. I just got her book but I might send it back--it's waaay too advance for a Cookie Striker.

Has anyone tried her chocolate cookies listed in the book?

Going back to what I should be doing--cleaning, etc. and not being online!

I bet being royal iced myself would still look better than my own cookies. The strike continues....

I have never tried Antonia's for the simple reason that it calls for 2.25 lbs of sugar. The sugar comes in a 2# bag...I don't want to open a second bag!

Our of curiosity, how much sugar do I need over the 2# bag?

Lisa I always add just the 2 pound bag and I don't have any problems.

Okay, I don't have any problems making the icing....decorating, well, look at my sig..... icon_rolleyes.gif
