I'm doing a motorcycle themed cake, and I'm trying to figure out how to get black fondant to have that leather look of a motorcycle jacket. Does anyone have any idea? I would be ever so appreciative! Thanks bunches and bunches!

Thanks so much for responding! I printed out that topic - it seems like they were getting a different type of leather look, but I'll try the crunched up aluminum foil and see what happens! Thanks again!

I've heard of rolling out fondant on leather to get that look. Just make sure the leather is clean, maybe some of that fakey stuff you get in the craft section. good luck.

Ooooh, that's a great idea! And I just so happen to be going to the fabric store tonight for something else! This is why I love Cake Central - everyone always has such great ideas! I never would have thought of it! And someone else in the other topic said she cut open a football, flattened it out, and used that as an "impression mat" and it had great results too! Who would have thunk! You guys are the BEST!

I found that by spraying water on the fondant covered cake and letting it dry, it look a lot like leather. You can sort of see it on the purse cake in my photos. I need to spray close enough to the cake so that droplets formed and it took about 6 hrs. for the cake to dry enough so that I could finish decorating it.

Happy experimenting!

the black cake in my photos looked like leather when you were right next to it, the picture doesn't show it to well though. I made MMF, and i actually think i added in a touch to much powdered sugar so it was a tad to dry. I haven't had a chance to play with it and see if i could get the leather look again, but wow did it look good.

Let us know what you do to get it to look like leather.
