Ok after doing the cake for this weekend I am struggling with pricing.

the two tiered cake is pictured here

and the coordinating cake is pictured here

So now for my pricing dilema

Based on the wilton chart these 3 cakes would yield 68 party sized servings or 96 wedding sized servings.

I have a hard time rationalizing charging 1.75/serving for birthday cakes but this one was very elaborate.

If I go by the party servings it would be $119 and wedding would be $168.

Do you all just go by one serving chart for your tiered cakes.

Essentially it is the same exact cake but if it were a wedding cake I would charge $168 and it would yield 28 more servings than the party cake priced at $119 because it is a party cake even though technically they are the exact same cake. UGHH this is so frustrating.

I never had this problem until I started offering tiered birthday cakes and more elaborate birthday cakes.

I am going to take pictures of the above cakes to a couple of local bakers to see what they would charge but I was hoping I might get some guidance here as well.

Well, for me, if they are a single 2-layer cake, I have a basic pricing list, added on to with more complex designs. Any cake that is tiered, be it for a wedding, birthday or other occasion, I charge by serving. I charge more for party servings than wedding servings, because it's the same cake and the same amount of work, so the prices need to reflect that. I personally start my tiered cakes at E2,00 buttercream for wedding servings and E2,25 party servings, fondant has an extra 50cts per serving added to each price. Hope that helps!
