I'm fairly new to the idea of using fondant and such. Is there a good recipe for gumpaste, or should one just buy it? If so, where?

Wilton has a new ready-made gumpaste, which I have heard is very good. You can also buy it online from Nicholaslodge.com

His website also has a very good recipe and instructions for making gumpaste using tylose. Making it yourself is usually less expensive, but I would start with a ready made, so you know how it is supposed to feel when you use it.

Here is a really good recipe:

http://www.nicholaslodge.com/gumpaste.htm

The commercially prepared version goes for about $14 per lb. It's really good, and worth the money. Lasts forever.

You need to use Tylose, don't substitute.

This stuff is a lot stretchier than wilton gumpaste mix. You may need to mix in some fondant to make it more workable.
