Have tons of leftover Wilton fondant (yeah, I know....don't hurt me), anyway so I plan on covering cookies with it. I'll be using Penny's cookie recipe. I have not worked with any fondant before to cover cookies except for covering cakes. Question is I plan on doing them at least a week ahead of when they are due (5/12). I can bake them ahead of time with no problem but do I already place the fondant on the cookies? I know that some of you put it on as soon as it comes out of the oven so it "melts" over the cookie but how do I do this ahead of time? Would they last say 10 days with the fondant? How do I store them? Will also decorate with RI. Can I do that ahead of time also?

Thanks,
Naty

Yeah, I have to agree about the Wilton... I use it if I'm in a crunch and need something to hold better than MMF and I didn't have time to make gumpaste but I only use it sparingly and tell people not to eat it lol, it's just not a tasty product at all! Now I've never tried it on Penny's but I only use MMF as a fondant for cookies... But yes, you can do them ahead of time, just use a simple syrup or I just use water to attach it.

You can do it all ahead of time as long as you plan on bagging the cookies. Are you sure you want to put the Wilton fondant on perfectly good cookies?? You should make some rulled buttercream. Yum!!

I use watered down RI to adhere fondant to cookies. Sorry, can't help with your other questions.

If you do end up using Wilton fondant on your cookies, a little Lorann oil for flavor really helps a lot with the taste.

I let fondant covered cookies crust a little before bagging them so the design doesn't get smooshed. It will still be soft underneath a slight crust.

Thank you all for your replies!! OK, you are making me feel very, very, guilty about using the Wilton Fondant. I really don't have much time to do these so that is why I wanted to use the fondant icon_rolleyes.gif OK, so if I do have time to not do the fondant and do a glaze or something, how long can I keep the Wilton Fondant?

Thanks,
Naty

Mix the Wilton with gumpaste and use for figures, flowers, etc. Things that probably won't be eaten. It's yucky!!!

icon_surprised.gif I only use Wilton Fondant on my cookies. LOL. It has the best texture. I just add some very high quality vanilla to it. Usually the fondant isn't that thick so mostly what your tasting is the cookie. I always make mine up at least a week ahead, then put them in celo bags. They stay perfect. I attach the fondant to the cookie by spraying the cookie with a fine mist of water. I probably do more than half my cookies in fondant. I have a lot in my gallery if you want an idea of how they come out.

I know...Wilton fondant does look nice. The pink bow cake in my pics is my class fondant cake. I gave it to my neighbor for her birthday and when I tasted a slice I was so embarassed. It was so disgusting. I did hear fondant isn't so bad on cookies. Mostly I like Toba Garrett's ...so far. MMF too sweet...even worse over xxx BC. Still trying recipes. A friend just recently tried Cake Bible fondant and it worked out well for her...

I decided to save the rest of the Wilton to mix with gumpaste to make non-edibles.... Well what will most likely not be eaten anyway...

Your cookies are beautiful!

Hi Jopalis, thank you for your input. Question - when you refer to Toba's do you mean her glace icing? I have used it before and like it.

Thanks,
Naty
