Hi! I'm making the graduate using the stand up bear pan. I baked the cake last night. This is the first time i've used this pan and i'm very nervous about the way the head looks. Those of you that have used this pan - do you dowel the bear to make sure he doesn't lose his head? I put him in the fridge last night laying in the pan because I didn't trust him sitting up. He (she) will be sitting on a 12" round when i'm done.
Any tips or pointers will be appreciated!

I've never had a problem with him losing his head, the feet have threatened to fall off but never his head. If he's going to be transported I've put a skewer in him just to keep him from bouncing around (we live on a bumpy gravel road and it was winter). If the head is cracking I definatly would and it wouldn't hurt anyway.
I've made the cake twice. I've never had a problem with the head. Once I didn't put enough batter in and the feet didn't form right.

I have used this pan many times before and never had a problem. I do dowel him/her right through the middle...I used her again last night to make an Elmo graduate, and I put her in the freezer so I can cut off his ears and legs today.
I've never had a problem with the head, either, but when I'm transporting it I do put a dowel in from the top of the head all the way through, just for stability.
I've made a bear and a baby using this pan, and each time the feet fell off. I used a half pound cake, half regular cake mix to make it sturdier. I'm determined to make one whole bear!
Thank you! I'm going to run the dowel and place him/her on a cake drum and place the drum on the bottom cake - if I can get a dowel through the drum.....
wish me luck!
Debbie
