Wow! This was a cake that I don't think I really prepaired myself for.
This was for a friend of my family that was turning 50 today. He loves darts and plays all the time. I actually cried and really sweated making this cake! I thought that the painting was going to be so easy and it took me longer than I expected!
The great thing about this cake. (which you can't see) was my perfect sides!! I used the foam roller method and it worked wonders! I love that technique. I also had the saying "Happy Bullseye Jeff!" cause a bullseye is worth 50 points. (for those who didn't know) He knew and loved it!
Well, the cake was worth all the praise and love I recieved from it! What a great night now that my cake is done! I just wanted to share my work with all the wonderful people on CC!
Thanks for looking!!!
well heck there's all kinds of lingo for darts. like ton-80 and white horse n three in a bed n lo ton n hi ton and dont forget the three in the bull means a free drink lol
You did a great job making all the lines so even. It all looks awesome. I don't think I would have had the patience for this one. Great Job!
Thank you all for the great comments!
I almost didn't have the patience for this one! I had a really horrible brush and couldn't find another one I liked so I just kept going. Then about halfway done with the reds I started crying like a little baby saying I was going to rip off the fondant and just do stars! I was sooo dramatic it is funny now! BUT! I am glad I didn't rip it off! Just goes to show what a little stubbourness can do! LOL
I really did work hard on this cake. It actually took me 6 hours just to decorate it! Please only give comments and feedback on the dartboard?
Thank you.
Wow, step0nme, that looks just like the dart board hanging in our garage! (but a lot cleaner and lot less hole-y). You did a fabulous job.
If you ever do this design again, you'll have a heads up on what to do and what not to do, and it will be easier. In the meantime, be oh so proud of yourself, its fabulous!
Great job on the dart board! Yes, stubborness does work often. Your lines are just perfect!
Tatter, why don't you post a new topic with a picture of your cake. That way everyone will be able to comment!!
That dartboard cake is amazing! It looks just perfect! You obviously put a lot of time into it. Great work!
Dianna
you did a wonderful job.
You've given me inspiration for my neighbours birthday, they play darts all the time. Never even thought of doing a dart board, hope you don't mind if I steal your idea.
OH WOW! all the nice comments!
idoweddingcookies: I DON'T MIND! It was really hard though. If you have airbrush I would recommend that or even if you made the individual pieces. I could've even done stars. I hand painted it and I wasn't easy!
When I gave it to my friends they were talking about how you could put the dart anywhere! Like he will be 51 next year and I could put the dart in the "Tripple 17"...that would be 51 points! So just remember this is very versitile!
I am soo excited I made this cake!!! THANKS GUYS!!!
Wow! Sorry to hear of all the grief this cake caused you, but it turned out so cool. Well worth it!!
Oh no sorry's here! I was being a nerd, perfectionist, drama queen! It is actually kind of funny now!
Thanks, Stephanie
Congrats...I enjoy making cakes that look like things (see my pics).
I bet your friend was really happy. Great looking cake, you should be proud.
You did such a great job on this Stephanie. I'm sure he loved it and all the guests were amazed when they saw it.
WOW AGAIN! Thank you everyone, so much!
I think me AND my husband pride ourselves on getting things correct. He plays darts and we had his dartboard right next to us the whole time! We even made a template BEFORE I painted the cake. It still didn't come out exact but, close enough. I think what drove me crazy is I did wanted to be perfect. Just another character flaw!
THANKS AGAIN! I feel so loved!
