I made a white cake....used all egg whites cause I wanted it white.... added cake extender 1cup flour, sugar..1c sour creme ...1/4 c milk.... used almond extract and vanilla .... ... I also used dawn's bc icing for the first time..... I didn't like it when I first tasted it....but holy cow...after it sits for a day....WOW.... I'll be using this icing from now on... I love how it went on the cake too.... My cake looked almost flawless... OK...problem.... The cake doesn't have much of a flavor...it's sweet....but I don't taste that almond taste I was going for....ugh...What did I do wrong????? All I'm tasting is the icing..and no cake flavor.
Any help would be great....also ...any great tasting white cake recipes...
Thanks,
cakegal

Doesn't sound like you did anything wrong....most white cakes really don't have much flavor because they generally have a flavored filling and take on the flavor blend of that flavor. Maybe next time you could increase the flavoring a bit if you want more of a almond flavor.

Try adding 1/4 cup almond amaretto, that will bring out the almond flavor in addition to the almond extract.

you might want to cut down on the vanilla and add more almond...oh, in the cakemix doctor book, it says to add the whole egg and not just the whites because the "yolks add flavor and it will have a tender crumb texture" to it. icon_biggrin.gif

Yes almond amaretto is liquor. You should be able to find it in the liquor department at the grocery store or at a liquor store. My favorite brand is Llord's...my husband bought a different brand recently and I just don't like it as much as Llord's.
