The petals on my MMF or regular fondant roses always flop on me. They lay over and rest of the layer of petals below. What am I doing wrong?

How thin are you rolling out? What kind of adhesive are you using? Do you have a way to sort of store them upside down to dry?

sounds like maybe your fondant is too soft........maybe let it sit for a minute and stiffen up a little for you..or if you're rolling them super thick and the petals are long...

I used Satin Ice to make some medium sized roses and the petals wouldn't stay up as high as I wanted. I put a piece of tissue underneath the bottom layer until they were dry and it worked well.

I make the petals thin on the outer edge and thicker where they are attached and use a small amount of water to stick them on. Does everyone use tissue between the layers to keep them from flopping? I thought they were supposed to be firm enough to stay where you put them. When I turn under the edge of the petal, similar real roses (Like ones seen on this sight) it makes it worse. I haven't hung them upside down to dry either. But they seem so soft already ,they would probably still flop, but just in the other direction. I started making several central buds and waited til they were dry and then added one row of petals. I do several of these and when that row is dry I add the next row. This takes forever and I have to keep going back to each rose and re-lifitng petals. I tried using Wilton's fondant figureing the texture would be right incase I am making the MMF incorrectly, but they still are flopping. Are they too thin? or not thin enough? What am I doing wrong. I am sooo frustrated!

I usually add the GUm Tex to my fondant when making roses; so it dries faster. Otherwise, you will have to position them in a holder or something to help them keep their shape; fondant takes longer to dry than gum paste

Thanks Kimanalynn,
I'll try adding the gumpaste to the fondant and see if that helps. I guess practice is what I need.

Thank you all for your help.

Don't add gumpaste to your fondant icon_surprised.gif As stated above - add Gum-Tex to your fondant. It makes the fondant more pliable (so it doesn't crack when you roll the edges of your petals) and dry harder. Good luck.
