Hey all,
Just received a shipment from Cakes by Sam..a diamond impression mat, some lustre dust and a fondant pearl mold. I also asked for the Edible pearls "how to" instruction sheet. I feeled a bit peeved, to be honest. I thought (this was certainly my fault) that the instructions were going to be using the mold. Fine, fair enough, they're not. But the first instruction is "Run fondant through pasta machine". I do not have a pasta machine.
Grrrr..
Oh well, live and learn. I'm sure I'll love everything else.

Thanks for reading,
Cindy

cindww,
You're not the only one. I paid $4.00 ea. for some impression mats I got. I thought they were going to be bigger (or something...I expected something a little different & I didn't pay attention to the size when I ordered it)..... Maybe you would be ok rolling the fondant out. It seems like this profession is a "learn as you go" kind of thing.

Good luck!!

i am pretty sure you can get the instructions online from www.sugarcraft.com. In any event, you can roll out your fondant with the fondant roller. Or you can skip that step and make into a roll about the size of your mold. Open up the mold and place the fondant in there. I make sure mine is real tight in there. Take a knive or small spatula and slide it over the excess fondant. Open the mold up and ease it out with the spatula, toothpick, whatever. You can put some of the luster dust in a small dish and roll the beads around to give them a luster. I wouldn't put it into the mold before placing the fondant in because it is hard to get out. You can order pearl dust from Beryl's too. After a few tries you will get the hang of it. If you find that the beads don't come out easily then use a tiny bit of Crisco and brush the inside of the mold with that.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels that way about the diamond mat. I bought it and I quess I expected somthing a little different. Like maybe something you could just wrap around a layer cake.

cindww--

Roll your fondant out with a rolling pin to a desired thickness, then use the smooth rope decorating tip (I think it's a 10 or 12) and press into fondant. Then roll each disc into a ball. You don't have to buy a pasta maker.

Remember, Cakes By Sam makes WAY more money than we do.

cindww, that's one of the aggravating things about the cake industry. Many of the products don't come with instructions, they just assume that you'll know how to use these items. *bangsheadondesk* Goodluck with your pearl maker and you don't need the pasta machine.

I have a pasta machine but I have yet to need enough fondant that is rolled out to 4-5" wide to make it worth pulling out. I guess maybe if I needed to make a lot of roses, I could run it through to get a nice smooth, consistently thin piece, but otherwise.. icon_razz.gif I'll just roll it.
