When stacking your cakes, what is the sequenc> Are they iced and covered in fondant first then stacked? What is used between the layers of cake. I assume you add the decorations after you are finished stacking, but what do you do first, second, third. Sorry, for the dumb question, but I feel like the person that asked the question, "What came first the chicken or the egg". I'm sure there is a logical sequence. I will be doing a trial cake this weekend, just for family and want to do it right.
Thanks for any and all help
They're iced first and then assembled.
Put a board under a tier. Wrap it in something like plastic wrap/saran wrap...I use glad press n seal.
Some people put powdered sugar under the board to help from icing coming up when the board is taken off.
And, there's a central dowel that goes to the VERY bottom.
HTH!
Good Luck!! I have yet to do a stacked cake and the moment of truth is 6/3. I've read everything I can on the subject and THINK I know what I'm supposed to do. Let me know how yours turns out!!
Ok, hth........
1. wrap boards
2. ice cakes(dowel if large cake) & decorate what you can, excluding bottom borders and/or top borders
3. stack cakes
4. central dowel
5. finish decorating (borders)
Steffy8 - go ahead & do a practice cake first. Do you have any dummy cakes??
good luck to both of you!!
Thanks, Everyone. It doesn't sound too tough. I'm icing in buttercream and covering in fondant. From what you are saying I should put the fondant on before stacking and finish with the rest of decorating of the layers after they are assembled. I'll be doing the cake for Saturday and will post it when finished.
