Doctoring Canned Frosting

Any ideas on how to doctor up canned frosting in a pinch?

I use canned cream cheese frosting for my cream cheese icing. I just add powdered sugar until it's stiff enough to pipe. Sometimes I'll add vanilla and shortening and milk if I want a different consistency.

I've also used canned chocolate frosting for making chocolate frosting with the same ingredients.

I just haven't taken the time to try out various recipes to get my own cream cheese or chocolate frosting.

I'm not sure, but I guess it depends on they type of frosting. I've never done it, but maybe you can add a coordinating flavor like if it's lemon, add some coconut flavoring, or if it's vanilla frosting maybe add some almond flavoring, etc.

Or are you trying to change the consistency of the frosting? Never having doctored the frostings myself I don't know about this one and the above is only an educated guess.

i have added powder sugar to make it stiff for piping. works great.
