Wow, what a bummer! I blew up my Sunbeam mixer today. Only used it about 10 times and I was only making BC icing when it blew up. That's $100.00 bucks down the drain. I thought I could get by with it without having to spend so much on a KA but, oh well, expensive lesson learned. I will be purchasing a KA. Sure hope I get to use it at least 11 times LOL! I guess it's better to laugh than to cry. At least that's what my mom always said. Gee, i'm beginning to sound more like her everyday. Thanks for letting me vent.
How long have you had that mixer? I think I would contact the manufacturer. I think there is a one year warranty on those mixers. I have one also and have made tons of icing and cake batter without a problem. I did get a KA though and so the Sunbeam is sitting there unused now. Good luck.

I've only had it for about a month and a half. The crappy thing is I can't find my receipt and I always keep my reciepts. I have the receipt for my deposit on my water hook up which was 12 years ago. I am just looking too hard I guess.
Did you send in your registration card when you bought it?? That may help. I wouldn't give up on trying to get some type of compensation from the manufacturer or the store where it was purchased.

Call customer service. They will probably have you read them the model number and serial number off the machine. That's what KA did when I called them. Then they replaced it. I know it's a different company but I think that's generally what happens.
Same thing happened to me yesterday ,making icing then it started with a very bad grining sound.
I didn't even get two cups of sugar in.
I got it at walmart so I just packed it up and went and got another one.
Want a KA also but I don't look to get it until Christmas.
That is a Bummer! I think I would call customer service also. I have had my Sunbeam since november, and have made many many triple batches of frosting with no problems. I have the bigger, 450 watt sunbeam, bought at Kohls for 119. (it was on sale, usually runs 159). Anyway, I like it better than the KA because it seems you have more room to add ingredients and to scrape the sides as you mix. I wouldn't trade it for anything!
I think the company will replace it for you if they are contacted. Any upstanding company should. Let us know the outcome!

Out of curiousity where do you buy the Sunbeam? Sometimes even if you don't have a receipt you can go in & get store credit & maybe use that on a KA mixer?
That sounds like what happened to me a few weeks ago! Mine didn't even grind...just STOPPED! I was also making bc. My husband just happened to be at Lowes, so he got me an Artisan. It was kind of interesting, actually, because he said the sign said it was $268, but when I looked at the receipt it rang up as $222! I LOVE my KA! My 3yr old and I just got done using it to make rainbow colored bread!
Still waiting on my KA,,,, guess i will have to get it myself,,,, was thinking about trying SB but since yours did that, im holding out for the best.
my mom helps me out by making the icing for me and she only has a hand mixer... hers went capoot the other day also... i tell her to go and buy a KA but she won't listen, she'd rather go spend another $15 on a hand mixer... someday hopefully i'll be able to buy her one for christmas or something... they're just the best
KA's are the best! I made 5 batches of that whipped BC icing last week and you have to let it run FOREVER and I thought it was gonna burst into flames... it's perfectly fine (knock on wood). It's the best thing you will ever get!

My first Christmas gift from my husband (BF at the time) was a Kitchen Aid. I knew he was a keeper after that!
I am so worried about that happening. I just got married, so I got my first KitchenAid, which I was so excited about. Now the instructor in my cake class is telling us that in a professional setting, most KitchenAids blow out in two years. Yikes!
I don't think a KA will burn out in 2 years even in a professional setting. I have had mine for 3 years now and have used it at least once a week in all that time for breads including kneading which is probably the most abusive, and now use it for icings ect. It doesn't even make excessive noise or anything. I have heard of people using KA's for 25+ years, even professionals. I would go ahead and trust the investment.
I've used my KA to make tons & tons of cheesecakes a week, plus cakes & cookies at my shop & its still kicking! I think it would be a good investment also.
KA is the best sometimes you just have to invest on a good mixter. I have
four my first one is 10 years old still working.
Thanks, Ya'll, that makes me feel so much better. I was worried! My teacher is a professional pastry chef and I think sometimes they just really get used to industrial equipment.
I have a KA hand mixer and it has really upset me. I have always heard that KA is the best and I could not afford a Stand Mixer so I bought a Hand mixer and one of the mixer has allready stopped turning properly.
Do y'all think it is because I should not use a hand mixer for icing, is it to dence, to much for the hand mixer?
I have only had it for about 6 or so months!
My sunbeam stand mixer is still going strong! Thank Goodness (but I still want a KA stand Mixer he! he!)

I would definatly think that the icing is why your hand mixer is dying. I have only taught one course for Wilton so far and already had a student burn out their mixer.
I purchased my KA hand mixer from QVC home shopping network. Do y'll think I should call them ar call KA Homeoffice and try to get a free beater attachment, or should I just let it go and learn not to make icing with a hand mixer?

If you haven't had it for very long, I would contact QVC and see if they would be willing to replace it for you. If not, then call and see what they will do. GL>
KAs can last along time in the home setting even when heavily used. My Dad gave my mother one for their first Christmas 1940 and it finally died in the early 70's, she got a second one to replace it and it was working fine when she died. My first KA was an ancient one like my mother's which I picked up at estate auction in the late 60's. Used it until I was given a new one in the late 70's- which is still a treat to use. My ancient one was given to a friend who used it for 5 more years until it bit the dust. (She then called me up and yelled at me because now she was spoiled and was going to have to spend a small fortune to get a new KA.) I don't know about the professional kitchen. KAs do get hot when they are heavily used, perhaps they don't get enough down time to cool off.
