Depemds on what fondant you're talking about. From what people seem to say, Wilton Fondant can only be improved by applying a blowtorch!
I think Marshmallow Fondant tastes just fine...even better with a little touch of almond flavoring. I have no experience with other recipes/brands. But, for me, there's almost nothing that won't taste better with a little almond flavoring added. My daughter totally disagrees! So....what do you do? Experiment and find what you like! Be prepared to throw away some fondant!
Lorann oil flavorings come in a ton of flavors, and you can add a few drops of it to any kind of fondant to help the flavor. Wilton fondant tastes like Elmer's Glue, though, so not much will help there. I prefer MMF with any Lorann flavoring that complements your cake flavor!
use a better brand or make your own... there are great ready made fondants and there are terrible ready made fondants... trial and error is your best best. Once found stick to it.
Thanks for the idea kelleym. I never thought to add flavored oil to fondant. I will be trying that very soon!

and how do you know what Elmer's Glue tastes like..........lol
I just tasted the chocolate Satin Ice, and "OH MY GOSH" it was like eating fudge. It was rich and yummy!
Everyone has different taste buds, but that stuff is good.
My local cake decorating store carries it. It has a shelf life of a year! That's my kind of fondant (even though it's consider rolled icing). Really easy to work with too. It's 13.99 to cover a 8 or 9 in cake. The MMF is much cheaper!

Haha! Ok, let me clarify...it tastes like Elmer's Glue smells.

Where would one aquire "Satin Ice"?
OMG! Elmer's glue! That's it!!! I have been trying to think of a way to descride Wilton's fondant, other than gross and that is what it reminds me of.
My Wilton instructor suggested using any of the Wilton flavorings.
This weekend was the first time I've ever worked with Fondant Icing and I bought wilton's ready made.. and I added a little vanilla too it and i just kept thinking "play-dough.. play-dough" but yes- elmer's glue is a much better description.
Where do you get the other kinds of fondant, and *WHAT IS* MMF? I'm very new to fondant obviously. Is there a good recipe to make your own? I'm interested in this!

MMF is marshmallow fondant and as the name suggests it is made with mini marshmallows, very easy to create. There is a recipe for it in the recipe section I believe. You can also add melted white chocolate to it or dark chocolate and cocoa, which would also give it another layer of flavor.
BTW, has anyone tried adding white chocolate to MMF? HOw does it taste?
