I just did my fist cake on a cakeboard with fondant. It looks so much batter than your regular ole pper or foil. I placed the cake on the fondant with parchment paper under it then slid it away after I was don decorating. A little meesier than I wished for, wanted to see how you gals do this when you cover your boards with fondant. Any super secret tips, as well as how you cover your board for the best results!

Hi!

when i cover my board in fondant, I do it four or five days in advance. then when you place the cake on it, you won't get dents or messes. So, if i have to make accents or do impressions on my board, I do that ahead. \\

Your cake was awsome by the way. Nice work!!! thumbs_up.gif

You made that look so neat, schmoop! I have a hard time with smooth edges, but that thing looks pristine! Well done. Sorry, no hints on fondant. I'd love to try covering the board myself sometime.

All the best,
Bekah

Yeah, I got some dents in the board, I had to make this in several hours so no time to let dry. Thanks for the compliments, I was avoiding the stars on the football, HATE TO DO THEM AND HATE HOW THEY LOOK!

You do not need parchment paper under the cake. Just put a dab of softened fondant (softened with water) on top of the board and this will hold the cake in place

Hi,
Your cake looks exellent! thumbs_up.gif

I am no expert in covering boards with fondant but i have done one.
I did the cake first and then coverd whatever was not under the cake with fondant. Worked for me.
I think that it would depend also on the cake design how it is better to be done.

I cover my board with foil first. Then add the fondant. Brush the foil with a bit of egg white for the "glue"...then I put ribbon around the perimeter of the board to cover the foil on the sides of the board.

What thickness do you use?

Forgot to ask; when using ribbons around the board, what type of glue do you use to hold it?

I roll it a bit less than a 1/4" thick. I'm sure you could roll it even thinner than that though..

I use good ol elmers glue on the ribbon on the sides of the boards. icon_biggrin.gif
