I'm making a 3D purse cake this weekend for my 2 year old's birthday party (she carries purses around all day long, it's really cute). Anyhow, I made a cute "handle" last night that I molded into an "M" for her name and while I was holding it today, putting on luster dust, it broke!!! I thought it was dry. It was hard. Although I'm made at myself for breaking it, I made another one just now. I'm making the cake tonight but was wondering how long should I let the handle sit before I touch it and not break the second one I made??

Thanks so much for your help! What would we ever do without CC???

If the fondant is pretty thick, It could take up to a week, but you should be able to put it in front of a small heater and turn it about every 3-4 hours. It should dry within 10-14 hours...enough to handle very carefully.

Thank you soo much xandra83. WOW, I did not realize it could take that long to dry. I assumed 24 hours was good enough. I'm just getting into MMF. I only use it as accents and have yet to dare cover a cake. I'm learning everyday. Thanks for the great advise! It is definitely appreciated.

If you dont have time to let it dry skip the luster dust....and dont set on handle on the cake until the last minute just in case...the cake and icing make it soft.....Im with the other post i let my dry for about a week ....i make all my accents on monday then let them dry for the weekend...... if not then i just wait until the last minute so that i dont ruin the pieces wioth out time to fix....
goodluck
