I just got a 12X18X2 cake pan from a friend, but unfortunately she no longer has the baking instructions. Does anyone know the baking time and how much cake mix the instructions say? I do have the heating core and know that I need to use that. Thanks!

You will get better results if you use more than one heat distributor. If you can use 3-4 inverted flower nails, you will get a more even distributuion. 325 is usually the best temperature for large cakes. And depending on the density of the batter the time will vary. I would start peak (hopefully you have a window) at about 20 mintues to judge how it is baking, in case you need to turn the pan.

It will probably take the better of two cake mixes.

I have never done the flower nail thing before. Do you just space them throughout or should they be in certain places? My friend seemed to think (but wasn't sure about it) that it took about 3.5 cake mixes. I'm so anal-I always measure out the right amount of cups.

Okay, i am doing a 12" round, can i use the flower nail for this???? Do you put the wide part of the nail on the top (outside) of the cake, or upside down (where the pointy part is pointing up)?????

You should place point up.
