Maybe you can use the 'pin prick' method. Cut out the picture very slightly smaller than you want it to be. Place it on the cake then use a new pin or toothpick to prick the outline.

You could also try putting the design under waxed paper and tracing over the outline with piping gel. Then, you turn it over on top of the cake and lighlty rub. it "transfers" to the cake. I've never tried this, but I read about it here. Just remember that the picture will be reversed when you put it on the cake.

Good luck!

I've cut out pictures of things....like on my spiderman cake, I drew the eyes and mouth for that cake on paper and then cut it out and put it on top of the cake and used light pressure to smooth the paper over the icing after it had crusted a bit and then removed the paper and it left a nice imprint of the outline.

You can print out the picture the size that you want it to be. Place the picture on a piece of cardboard or styrofoam, styrofoam works best, and then use a needle to poke small holes around the edges of the picture that you need to show the detail. When you pick up the paper the backside should show the details of the picture with the little holes that you created. Place the paper on your frosted cake and gentle rub your hand across it to press the impression of the picture on the cake. Then outline and fill in with frosting.

I am actually using this method today on my daughter's birthday cake. I should be able to post the pics tomorrow. I love using this method. I learned about it here on CakeCentral.

Good luck!

Hi CakeBakingGurl.

I like the piping gel transfer method. It works good for me. I have done the pinprick method also. Both work great.
