Is there a standard for a minimum deposit put down for orders? I do cookies and have always charged 25% of my total quote (custom), 15% (standard). Does this seem fair?

Do you have a "loss prevention" disclaimer, such as if you take the time for designing and quoting a customer and the work has started on the product and the order falls through, do you say charge a fee of $100.00 and keep the deposit for time spent?

Just looking at my options. Any advice or help is appreciated

My website states a 50% deposit and then the remainder when cookies are delivered (at least then my costs are covered) and that the deposit has to be made before I can start baking. If order is cancelled after I start baking, then deposit is mine.

So far, the orders that I have received have been from people who haven't seen my website, so I haven't bothered to make them pay the deposit first, but they have also been friends or family. I swear, I'm the worst businesswoman. LOL! I'm having a hard time with my prices too. Ugh. Good thing I don't have a store front to pay for!
