Hi All,

I'm still working on a buisness plan for a cake decorating (and other edible art) supply store. There aren't any numbers published as to what sales in this kind of business might be and since rent is ridiculous around here, the risk is really huge if I sign a lease and then don't have sufficient sales. I'm hoping you all might be willing to tell me how often you visit your local supply store if you have one and how much, on average you spend when you do go. What you like to buy there would be useful too. This might give me an idea, at least, if there is any chance that I'd have a core of people who might come in and buy more than an edible image or one cake pan on impulse. Whether you have a business or this is a hobby would be very useful information as well.

If you have a local store, but prefer to buy on-line anyway, I'd love to hear why you prefer that. Knowing why I might lose business to on-line vendors would help me with marketing, since, though I wouldn't refuse to mail something to someone, that is definitely NOT going to be a big part of this business.

Thanks for any help you can provide. (And any ideas)

Shalom,
itsacake!

Hi there!

I have my own cake company from my home, but I also decorate a few days a week for a bakery that also sells cake supplies.

We have a lot of cake decorators that come in for various suppies. Boxes and boards are always good movers. Fillings, foil in various colors for wrapping your circles, boards, ect.. He carries a wide variety of pans, deco packs, candles, cookie cutters, plastics, etc. Depending on your area, if you have a lot of decorators in your area, I would highly recomend carrying fondant and gumpaste tools, accessories. Oh, we also carry satin ice fondant. Big seller. Reasonalby priced and nice to work with.
Please e-mail me if you would like get more info.

Hope this helps,
good luck
Dawn
