Ok all of the experts on fondont 3D figures. How far in advance can they be made? How do you store them? Do you want them to dry out. I need to make cows for a cake for next friday. Thanks for your help

The people on my beach cake I made 3 days before the cake was due. It was plain fondant not gum tex. They were all dry by then. I left them on my dining room table to dry.

I do mine at the same time. I fondant the cake and make the figures up on it. It depends if you want them eaten or kept as a keepsake.
Keepsakes are best to allow to dry and made up seperately to the cake so that they are glued in one piece.
They will keep for weeks, in an airtight container in a dark cupboard

Most the time I do mine at the same time, just cause I do things last min. But I have made them up to a week in advance, I just let them sit on my dinning room table

I made them today. Mostly just to make sure I could do it. I hope they are still up right by Friday. icon_redface.gif

Awwww, those are so cute! icon_smile.gif I made fondant dice and Yahtzee cup (go figure, one of the photos I DON'T have scanned into the PC.) several days ahead of time and they were fine. I did floral arrangements for a wedding cake (my father-in-law's) completely out of fondant a good week or 2 before....they were still quite fragile and I broke several of them...but other than that, they were okay. icon_razz.gif (Don't have that photo up here either. Also go figure. LOL)

Thank you all for the nice comments.
I found the cows on www.pastrywiz.com/cakes. Not sure if they have any others. The clay books would be good.

The cows are too cute. You did a great job.

I made some fondant babies and loops for a bow for a baby shower cake last week week. Well...long story short the shower cake was moved to this week on Thursday. Well the fondant loops changed color from purple to pink; however, the babies are still good but I am so afraid they are going to change color as well.......... anyone have any thoughts on this?
