I am working on a birthday cake for a little girl. The Mom has given me complete creative control all she ask is that it be something her daughter can 'be proud of'. I have my design in mind and she wants a stacked cake to feed 20 children - a 6 and an 8 inch round should be plenty right?

Thanks!

I find this website very helpful in figuring out servings. http://www.earlenescakes.com/ckserchart.htm This chart is however for wedding cake servings (1.5"x2") Although birthday cake servings are a little larger than wedding, I think that would probably be ok with a 6" and 8" but I would maybe go for a 7" and 9" or 10" to ensure enough for everyone.

thank you mendhigurl, I have saved that chart to my favorites - I think I am going to stick with the 6 & 8 inch - they will be 3 layers high so I think it should be plenty of cake for 20 five year olds.

I'd say 6 & 8 in are fine, Earlene's chart is for single-layered cakes, so when I use it for my double layers (that's the minimum I make!), it provides plenty of cake in those serving amounts! Good luck!
