I have some friends that don't live near me that want to taste on of my cakes. SO they want me to ship it to them. Is this even possible? I've seen someone post about rec'ing a cake they ordered online, but I wasn't sure. What all goes into packing one so that it doesn't get messed up, what about freshness?
Any help is this possible????
TIA

The only safe cake that ships is plain or pound cake. You can cover an iced cake in plastic, but that will obviously mess up the cover. It they refrigerate the cake, then the plastic will peel off.

If you pack it a tin or some other airtight container the pound cake will stay relatively fresh for a few days.

I was also thinking about shipping a cake. It's a flourless chocolate cake- how do you think that will hold up? Do you think I'd have to ship it in dry ice? Thanks in advance.

For flourless chocolate cake, if it was packed in a tight container, then in a shipping box with dry ice, it should survive very well. You would want it to stay cool, and be delivered "next day".

I don't know how they do it but cakes can be shipped. I have read on www.mikesamazingcakes.com that he ships his cakes all over the place...and his are decorated! You might be able to email him and ask him what service he uses or how he packs them.
Good luck,
Heather

you have to be certified now days to ship using dry ice because the airlines/post office consider it a "hazardous material".

Colette Peters told us at a seminar that she ships her cakes. I believe up to 3 tiers! She just really fills them up with doweling and packages them up really well. Now here's the kicker -- She has the overnight folks hand carry them on the plane! icon_surprised.gif Boy, we should all be in such demand!!! I really got a kick out of that. Just thought I'd share.

Thanks Everyone - I was really hoping to send just a normal 'doctored' cake mix cake w/ minor decorations.
I did email Mike's amazing cakes (and OMG are they amazing) and the shipped there's via air and costs like $150 (slightly out of the price range I was looking for icon_surprised.gif )
