I have a baby shower cake due this weekend and was wondering how do I make a fondant baby with a blanket over him?

Hi, if the cake is due this weekend I don't think you'll have enough time to order a mold. I know they're out there, or if you're good at sculpting then you'll have to sculpt it. I'll post a link for the mold if I can find it.

You can go to http://webmall1.com/sweetdreams/index.html and look at her baby cakes under Occassions. She has pictures of a baby under a blanket, and you can look at that. You do a basketweave 'blanket' on several thicknesses (3-4 layers is good) of plastic wrap, then lift the whole thing & drape it over the baby. Add a small shell border to hide the plastic edges and a few flowers, and Voila!- A really cute cake! As for the baby; I have never done one, so I just answered the blanket questions! icon_redface.gif Hope this helps you some.

I did a baby for the first time not too long ago. I just looked at one of the babies that were on this site and then tried to copy it. I took the blanket away and added a diaper to give it my own spin and it came out pretty good. When I got stuck on putting the arms and legs on I just had my son lay like the baby so I could see how the arms were bent. It really wasn't very hard.

I am making a baby shower cake for this weekend too. The fondant baby I'm making is really simple. The baby is sleeping, so you just see one side of his face. Make a skin-coloured ball of fondant for the head, shape it a little to resemble a forehead. You don't have to be too particular because you can put the blanket up over most of the head, just have some of the face peeking out. Put a small ball of fondant on for 1 ear, press a small hollow into it with a paintbrush handle. Use the end of a straw to make a tiny "U" to look like a closed eye. You can paint hair on with food colour, or use fondant. Make an oval shape with the fondant for the body, which you won't see because it's under the blanket. Cut a rectangle out of fondant for the blanket. You can use the back of a knife to make a crisscross pattern on the blanket. Place it over your sleeping baby and you are done! It's just like playing with play doh! (I got this from Carol Deacon's "The Complete Step-by-Step Guide to Cake Decorating" - awesome book!) Good luck on your cake!

get some clay books.....for molding polymer clay babies...they have some really realistic looking ones and they have great step by step instructions...then just use fondant or gumpaste instead of clay
