Does anybody know why the recipe for Simple Syrup on CC says to let it cool before you use it?

I think the hot syrup soaks in too quickly, and soften the cake. It can be used warm, but I wouldn't use it hot. Also, if you are adding icing, the extra heat can have negative effect on the icing.
