i made cookies over the weekend for easter, and i made them with royal icing, and well needless to say, its 100% sugar, and i LOVE the way royal icing is, what u can do with it, and how it looks, but my question is, Is there a type of icing thats almost the same? but less sweet? may be a stupid question, but i thought i would ask.

thanks alot

I don't think so. I think it's one of those things where you either go for the look or for the taste. As a compromise, maybe you could ice them in a crusted buttercream. You'd have to be a little more careful with them because they'll smear, but they'd probably taste a lot better.

There is a recipie here on CC that uses 1/2 cup butter in the royal icing for cookies. I have never tried it but it sounds like it would taste much better and it states that it will dry like royal icing does.

Just go to the recipe area and type in Alice's cookie icing, I think that is it.
