OK....I'm doing a Spongebob cake and I'm using the 3D egg pan for his pineapple house. I'll be cutting off the top part of the egg to make a flat surface to put on a sheet cake. Here's the question....How do I support this egg on the sheet cake? I need to take it about 20 minutes away. The other option is to just wait and put it on at the party, but I'd rather not have to hold on to it while driving.

Here is what I'm thinking of doing:

Place bamboo skewers, sharp side up, into the sheet cake and sticking up out of the cake about 4 inches or so. Question is....can the egg sit on top with no board under it?

The problem with the 3D pan is that it is 2 halves that fit together, so I can't just stick a dowel rod through the center of the egg, through a board and into the bottom cake.

Any suggestions? icon_confused.gif

I would use dowel sticks just underneath the egg so it doesn't crush the bottom layer. You won't need very many maybe 4 or 5.

Is there a way to "attach" the egg to the bottom layer so it will safely travel?

Yes.If you put the egg on it's own board. As long as you keep the cake flat and put skid proof under the box it will travel just fine. The egg isn't that high so it won't tip over like a 3D cake would. The icing will hold the egg together.I am doing this same cake tomorrow but I just have to take it to a friend for a party.

I haven't used the 3D egg pan before but can you insert the skewers in on either side of the egg at a downward angle so the they criss cross? Just a thought...
