Ok I am new to this and just starting to get orders. I was wondering when you get paid do you take checks? And what happens if that check bounces? How do you all deal with that?

If it is for wedding cakes, you can specify that full payment is to be made say 3 weeks before the date the cake is required. If the cheque bounces, either they pay cash, or no cake. If it is a smaller cake which you would usually just get paid on delivery, specify cash only to avoid all the hassle.

In over 2 years, I've only had 2 checks bounce and both times the bride contacted me before I heard from my bank. They made it right immediately.

We've only done one wedding cake and we let them pay a week before. All other cakes we get paid upon delivery or pick up. No one has ever bounce a check on us.

I would let them give you a deposit a couple of weeks before hand...send that check through....upon delivery get the second or even ask for a cash payment....cant go wrong with cash icon_smile.gif
