I hear that the cakes in this film are amazing. I haven't seen the film but would love to see the cakes - does anyone have a link to any images? It would be good to build up a database of cakes used in films and their designers as they're usually gorgeous!

I read somewhere that Ladurée was chosen by Sofia Coppola to make all of the pastries and cakes for the film. They are famous for their macaroons in particular (which are also in the movie). I was lucky enough to receive a box of them as a gift from someone who went to Paris and they are DIVINE.

I just have to say that the whole movie is visually BEAUTIFUL! I enjoyed the movie but I would say rent it just to see how gorgeous it was - the cakes, pastries, clothes, etc.

it's funny how much i notice that kind of thing now in movies. the other day, i was cleaning, and just wanted some background noise, from a movie i'd already seen...no excuses to get out of the housework that way! anyway, "the perfect man" with heather locklear and hillary duff was on, and i remembered that she did cakes...they did quick shots of a few really pretty ones...the most notable ones being the whimsical one and then the one she won the contest with at the end.
If you ever end up in Paris, you MUST visit La Duree on the Champs Elysee (sp?)
The store itself is GORGEOUS! It is like being in a Tiffany window or a jewelry box. The pastries are so far over the top. Even their boxes are gorgeous! I took a picture of everything that I bought there. I will see if I can find my pics. Even their windows were a sugar rush.
I have! I spent 4 weeks in France last year, topped by a week in Paris and ate so much pastry, I almost fainted. Thank god you walk everywhere there! I actually LOST weight! It was shocking!
La Duree is really the best, in terms of pastry, and the shop itself. It is turn of the 18/19th century over the top gorgeous.

Speaking of cakes in movies, 'The Great New Wonderful' with Maggie Gyllenhaal, she is a upscale cake decorator. The movie itself is pretty forgettable but I loved the cake scenes and where she is pitching to the rich spoilt teenager.

Wow - thanks for the links, what lovely looking cakes! Cakes in films should definitely be something we keep our eyes out for!
I keep 2 books for brides to browse thru . One is a book of cakes I've made andthe other are pics from magz's and the internet. I have one section in the 2nd book of Hollywood Wedding cakes, including TOm Cruise and (the redhead woman on Desperate Housewives). Brides enjoy seeing these! I may have to add a "movie cakes" section!
How do you get photos of the cakes in the first place? I think being in the UK I miss out on 'celebrity' cakes. Could you post them here or did you get them from a magazine?
most are from magazines. when i web-search, you'd be surprised on how many cake pictures that are NOT out there! it's like the cake is not part of the wedding. (I mentioned to a photog friend of mine re: this and now when he does a wedding, he makes sure to take lots of cake pictures "....just for debi!" 
)
I am glad I'm not the only one who watches movies hoping for a glimpse of a cake or two! People have already mentioned my favourite, Nanny McPhee, and also The Perfect Man (or whatever that Heather Locklear movie was called, I couldn't even tel you the plot!!) I have to admit I only watch 'Bam's Unholy Union' and the Dave Navarro/Carmen Electra show hoping there might be cake episodes!!
Ahhh...those cakes are so beautiful, along with the costumes, the women, etc. hahaha As for the Paris bakeries, when I was there, I had yet to find a bad one. I swear I ate my way thru Paris, and thank god its such a big walking city, because I came home 9 pounds thinner?! I ate crepes, cake, and croissants everyday. The photo posted from the movie is exactly what I want my cake shoppe to look like someday. French blue interior, parisian style furniture. I've got a french theme on everything from my business cards, to company name. Next to Disneyworld, I thought Paris was the happiest place on earth! Vive le France!

Where's the cake under all those flowers at Catherine Zeta Jones' wedding - don't like that one, and I'm totally unimpressed with Sarah Michelle Gellar's cake - plainly decorated with fresh flowers plonked on the top and then put on the tall tier stand - bet she paid an arm and a leg for that too lol! To each their own - if it's what they asked for/wanted then great!

), was on holiday in france & germany with her boyfriend and called last week to say that he proposed ON TOP OF THE EIFFEL TOWER!!!!!
i'm over the moon with happiness and already planning the cake.....
i'm begining to think that the cupcakes i made for her celebrating the trip, must have worked like a charm - they had chocolate eiffel towers on them! check them out in my photos.
she said exactly the same thing as suzmazza, eating croissants & pastries every day, but still managing to lose weight from all the walking. sounds like a win-win situation n'est pas?

Antoinette was famous for being young and naive...If most people know nothing about her they know her for her famous quote..."Let them eat cake!" The people of France were starving while the royal familly was throwing money out the window on less then basic needs. In the end it cost both Louis and Antoinette their heads. That quote is why there are so many beautifull cakes in that film. The film itself was so so...it ends abruptly and they are both still wearing their heads on their shoulders, worth seeing but social class was definitely more in depth about them.
