Hi ladies!
I am new here, and am thinking of making my daughters 1st birthday cake. I want to do a small round pan with a smaller round top layer.
I guess you would call it 2 layer? I think you prob. have to make 2 layers per pan for height though, right?

Anyway, I don't need a huge cake, but I want to do the 2 size pans idea. What size pans should I use? I was thinking of a 6 inch, and an 8 inch.
Are they too big? This is my first time, so I have tons of questions!
I am also thinking of using fondant. How does it taste?

Thanks a lot!

Kelly

I would make the normal regular cake for everyone, and make her her very own smash cake.

Just something small, could be a cupcake or up to a 6" two layer cake....what ever you choose. Also, if you have a 3-d mini bear, that'd be great too!

Good Luck, and BTW, welcome to CC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

KellyG: Welcome to CC! I think a 6" and an 8" will be fine...I also see a lot of stacked cakes that are 6" and 10". The 6" would be great for a smash cake, like mmdd said. You mentioned you were thinking of using fondant. Are you thinking the Wilton fondant that you can buy at the store? Or will you make your own marshmallow fondant (MMF)? Let me just tell you that I tried the Wilton fondant in class and it tasted like play-doh! Yuck! MMF is much better. Even better than that, though, is rolled buttercream. I made some a couple nights ago (haven't put it on the cakes yet) and it tastes better than the MMF in my opinion. Well, good luck. Feel free to post any more questions if you run into any--Cake Central is a great community of experienced people from all over the world as well as newcomers to the field and everyone is always glad to help.
