Hi,
I am now waiting for my butter to come to room temperature so I can make some buttercream for my cupcakes... I'd like to know if there is a quick way to do this. Do you guys have any tip on this? (I so want to just put the butter in the microwave and hit the "30 second" button right now.)
Oh, and one thing I learn from the food channel ==> Salted butter can actually stay better and longer in your fridge than unsalted because salt acts as a preservative. Unsalted butter can pick up a taste as it sits in your fridge (though this has never happen to me...probably because I very rarely purchase unsalted ones).
I too hate to wait for room temperature...and I must say I rarely wait...I will also hit the button on the microwave, but I also know if I know I am going to use butter, I pull it out that morning or afternoon.... I never wait if I am using margarine, I just throw it in and mix it up and its fine...butter on the other hand..... not so easy....
I've never been one to leave butter out of the fridge, although I'm sure it would be fine. I usually put it in the microwave on a plate, hit Defrost for about 15 seconds or so and I'm ready to go!
If you'll cut the butter up into 10 pieces, it'll soften in about 10-15 minutes. I've also placed my butter on top of the warm stove to soften it. I'm hesitant to use the micro cause I don't want the butter to melt or get hot if it's for icing.
Thank you all so much for the tips! Now I am gonna quit waiting and go either cut my butter into small pieces or put it in the microwave.
Thank you so much!!!!
Wow! I thought I was the only one that do the microwave stuff....thank goodness I'm not..lol I have no patience sometimes.

I also don't like to wait for the butter to come to room temp. I put it in the microwave on defrost for 10-15 seconds and it works just fine!
I forgot about that too...I have cut my butter up to get it to soften... I have a scar from the stitches! : maybe thats why I have forgotten!
I'm just wondering what it is that makes you guys unwilling to leave butter out on the counter? Unless the room is sweltering hot, the butter won't get rancid or anything....and if you leave it in the wrapper while it is coming to room temp, no little buggies should get near it <grin>
If I even THINK that I might be making a cake that day, I pull the butter out and put it on the counter in the AM.
I also have my "table butter" (margarine does NOT enter my home) out on a counter at all times...slthough lately I have been keeping it in a butter bell <grin>
I pull my butter out early too but sometimes you just forget. Sometimes the mood to bake a cake just hits you and you haven't had time to get any ingredients to room temp. Some have kids and cats...they'll eat anything and especially butter. I did...sat right up on the center of the kitchen table and ate a block with my little fingers. My DM still tells that story I was only 3...still love butter though but my waistline can't handle a block at a time .
when im making my BC and i need the butter, i just throw it in the mixer right out of the fridge... is this ok?? or does it have to be at room temp??
I've never tried that but if it works for you...it must be okay Do you ever end up with butter lumps?
ah lisa...... are you sure you arent my mommy??
she too was three doing the same thing, and when they went to a resturant later in life she still sat at the table and ate the little butter squares off the little pad.... heck she came here last June and did the same thing!!!!!!!! I thought she was the only one!
