I know I've seen this on here before, but I searched and can't find any relavant information. I am making a child's birthday cake for tomorrow and the customer wanted curling ribbon on the corners of the cake (top of 1/4 sheet cake). Do I just push them down in the buttercream and put a dab of icing over it, or is there a special technique? icon_confused.gif

Your advice is much appreciated!

Thanks!

I used them once. I just pressed the ribbon lightly into the icing & they stuck just fine. HTH

I'm not sure what you're talking about but how about attaching the ribbon to a toothpick or lollipop stick so it would be easier putting it on the cake. HTH.

Ok, I used to work in a groc store bakery, and we'd do around 100 of these kind every week - so I've done it a gazillion times and it is super easy!

Cut the length of your curling ribbon twice as long as you think you'll need.

Tie the bundle in a knot in the middle.

Then curl each 1/2 bundle.

Then just lay on the cake! You don't need to push it down in the icing or anything, just drape it where ever you want it. We always put a bunch of plastic balloons in the cake right next to the knot.

This is the same thing we always did in the bakery I worked in. Except if we didn't want to put anything into the middle of the ribbon where the knot was we did the following.

Fold both sides together so the knot is between your fingers and all the ribbon is going the same direction. Grab the the knot with your scissors (with the rest of the ribbon around the scissor handles) and poke into the cake. This way your ribbon is all coming from one spot and if you don't want to add anything between you don't have too =)

Balloons were required for us if there was curling ribbon on the cake! We couldn't put out a cake that just had ribbon on it. If we were out of balloons, then all the cakes had to be done in roses! (Which, if you're doing 140+ cakes a week to stock the grab-n-go display case, takes forever!) So, of course, I made sure we never ran out of balloons - we had a huge rubbermaid bin that I kept slam full of the boogers icon_smile.gif
