Does anyone have any ideas for doctoring up a yellow cake mix?? I am also looking for a good chocolate frosting/buttercream to go with it-- I've never done homemade chocolate frosting. Thanks!! icon_smile.gif

The White Almond Sour Cream cake is a doctored cake mix recipe. It's the perfect combination of home made taste and texture with box mix reliability.

To make a yellow cake; omit the almond extract, and use 6 whole eggs not 8 egg whites.

There are also other variations.

The Chocolate Syrup b/c frosting is very popular:

If you're going to do a lot of decorations, you'll probably have to add additional powdered sugar.

Here's how I "doctor" yellow cake mix:

1 box yellow cake mix
1 box (4 serving size) regular (not sugar free) vanilla instant pudding mix
# of eggs called for on cake pkg + 1
double the amount of oil called for on cake pkg
1 cup of water

first blend the eggs together, then slowly beat in the oil
blend in the instant pudding mix until all the powder is dissolved
mix in 1/2 of the water and 1/2 of the cake mix until completely incorporated
mix in rest of the water and rest of the cake mix until completely incorporated
beat on high (I use 8 on my KA stand mixer) for 3 minutes

Bake at 350

This has never failed me! icon_smile.gif
