Help Me Name My Business.... Please?
Business By CoakiesCakes Updated 30 Mar 2006 , 7:15pm by steph95
I am starting a little cake decorating business and have a fund raiser this weekend which I need to provide business cards for... unfortunately I can't decide what to call my business.
I appologize if this is a really dumb topic but I would soooo appreciate your honest opinion on this. First I was considering 'Christine's Cakes' (not very creative and then 'CakeDiva' (because that's what my friends nicknamed me) but I was afraid it sounded snobby. What I really like is 'Coakie Joe's Cakes'.... My grandparents were named Coakie and Joe.... I know it's a touchy-feely story but will it be odd to see this on business cards? It would have my name, number and some of the different types of cakes I make... you know the drill
Ok, don't hold back.... and thank you.
Go with the Cokie Joes Cakes! Has a great ring to it. My husband thought I was crazy when I named my business but I have gotten more compliments on it and it is a great conversation starter. It is not a basic name so it will catch someones eye yet it still says cakes so there is no confusion about what it is that you do. Good Luck!!! and go for it!!
You have any favorite thing that instantly identifies you to your friends (flowers, birds, etc....) or a nickname?
Not a dumb topic, this sort of question comes up all the time! Cake Diva is too close the the LA based company of Cake Divas. Although I really like the name you have chosen you might get a lot of "Oh, your a woman!" Sometimes simplicity is the key. Coakie's Custom Cakes has a nice ring to it, Coakie's Cakery is a personal favourite (My business name is Triple 'C' Cakery, so I'm biased on the 'cakery' part.)
Do you plan on offering anything other than cakes? Other baked goods? How about Coakie's Confections? Oakie Doakie Coakie's? CJ's Custom Cakes?
You have a cool name, your possibilites are endless!
These are just my little ideas. There are some on here that come up with some awesome ideas too...
Since there is already a Cake Diva- she's on the Food Network Challenges and other shows a lot- I would go another direction. I like the word "cakery" so I think you should use that somewhere. Sorry, I'm no help.
Thanks for all your comments - I do appreciate it! ( And I had no idea there was an LA based Cake Diva - I would have died!)
I do lots of other baking - cookies, pies, cheesecakes, bundts - and I was contemplating trying to include some reference to the other stuff too. I don't know if there is such a thing but what would you call a dessert-only caterer? I am not necessarily in an affluent area but there are alot of Bay area commuters with money - I was trying to go that route. My dream, of course, is to open a true bakery but it is out of the question at this point. Recent & sudden pending divorce leaving me with 4 children and no daycare - I was trying to think of something to grow on and work on at home.
I make these chocolate chip cookies that people just love - I mean I gave some to my kids basketball coach to thank him for picking up my daughter and he flipped out! Made a huge fuss and asks for them constantly - told everyone at his work about them... I even got some boxes to package them... of course, he is not paying! I have to work on that part! Well, Mrs. Fields I am not but I sure can try.
I am definitely emphasizing the cake decorating more because I felt there was more of a profitable market there.... but I wanted to cover all bases.... Sorry for this long winded post......
I like Coakie-Joes Confectionaries myself-you are unlimited that way with any type of sweets and it just flows-but you are the boss-it's always what falls in your direction that works! Good luck on your new adventure!! We are all here if ya need us!!
FatandHappy is the best name ever! I love it! I was thinking of naming mine Chubby Cakes... but thought it might repel some people or offend some.
I love Milk and Coakies... very cute play on words. If you are worried though about Coakie Joe being more male influenced... spell Joe as Jo then it's a bit more feminine. Let us know what you decide.
I love Coakie Joe's: that is so original. You could also shorten it to CJ's. You'd still give your grandparents the honor that you wish to give them.
Just my 2 lincolns....
