Buttercream Or Royal Icing?

i have a wedding cake to do in June and it is only my second one and i was wondering if i should use bc or royal icing for the sweet peas? it says to use royal icing i was just concerned about the icing being so hard.

The flowers in royal will not melt. In June, the buttercream flowers could melt. If your cake will be very safe from heat, you could either freeze or air dry the buttercream flowers. However, if they are small, the sweetpeas in royal would be my choice. you could make them now, pack them up and they will last virtually forever.

if i done them in buttercream how long do i let them air dry and how long will the last?? thanks
