Does anyone know if Wilton's gumpaste mix dries as hard as other recipes? I have never made any from Nick Lodge's recipe or using Tylose and need something that will dry very sturdy. TIA--Pam

It depends on what you mean by "sturdy". Both the Wilton (not white) and the Nicholas Lodge recipe (more white) dry very hard, but the thin petals are still somewhat fragile.

Thanks JoAnnB--
I'm not making flowers with it, I'm making part of a lighthouse with it. It's for the top part of the lighthouse.

Hey mac- I just uploaded a picture of a cowboy hat I did last week. The brim of the hat is 50/50 gumpaste and MMF I let the brim dry for 4 days and it was very hard. Don't know if that info helps you or not. Hope so.

Pastillage, similar to fondant, dried very hard, very white and dried quickly. This is one recipe if found, I am sure you can reduce it, for find other, smaller recipes. This is used in structures of sugar show pieces

Pastillage Recipe

7 lb Powdered Sugar
1 lb Cornstarch
1/2 oz Cream of Tartar

Sift ingredients together.
1-1/2 oz Gelatin

1 pt Water

Bloom gelatin in water and dissolve. Add solution to sugar and cornstarch mixture, gradually, in a stainless steel mixing bowl with a stainless mixing paddle. Hold back some of the water and use only if necessary. Mix on first speed to achieve a firm and smooth consistency.

Pastillage dries quickly, so be sure to store wrapped in plastic wrap.
Aluminum attachments will turn the pastillage grey.

Be sure that the work area and your tools are scrupulously clean and dry.
