I have seen this through wilton yearbooks, online, and here, that people are doing great cakes with pans that are made for something else. Just take a look at kiddiekakes post on this url.. buzz lightyear out of other pans.... I have thought about emailing wilton to do a special book on their pans past and present and how to use them to make something else...

It would be really nice to be able to do a search and be able to pull up cakes made using a certain pan. Maybe if everyone includes the character pan used in the description or the keywords, it would work. Jeanne G has wriiten a book all about cake pans but I don't know if it includes alternate uses.

They have an area on the wilton site that shows how to make other cakes out of their shaped pans. They have some cute ideas. It's under cakes; shaped pans; additional pan uses.

Thanks Ladycake...I do that with pictures of cakes too. Sometimes I loose them or forget their there so I've started keeping a binder full of directions. I haven't categorized it yet, but I plan too. It'll kind of be like a giant instruction book.

I'm working on my second binder!

I have a lot of things stored in my AOL mail. Does anyone know if they can be saved elsewhere? I might be changing my AOL account and don't want to lose all I have there.

Thanx!

Here are a couple places I store files when I don't want them taking up space on the computer. They're both free but have limits.

www.ripway.com
www.walagata.com

And you could always blog them...

For pics...

Photobucket and Blogger work together so you can upload photos and then blog all in one place.

icon_lol.gif Lisa, I just had to laugh at your last post......I suddenly feel even older, what the heck is a blog??? I love my computer but there is still so much I have no idea about.....I never even used a computer until I was 29 years old......I wish I would have had the benefits of learning about computers in school and learning all the ins and outs.....they are amazing, and apparently can help with cake decorating designs....who knew?!!! icon_lol.gif

Blog is short for Web Log. It's a place to post pics, thoughts, just about anything really. I have two if you'd like to see them.

The other is Cake Fun in my signature.

Yes, if anyone knows of alternate pans that can be used for the making of a cake in the shape of the state of Texas or one for a piano...( I bid on piano pans on ebay but keep getting outbid at the last minute) I would appreciate a heads up!
