Worked on a bride's cake and groom's cake yesterday. From 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m.! This after some prep work earlier in the week! I have never in my life spent so much time on a stupid cake, and the frustrating thing is, it doesn't even look that great!

My buttercream is severely cracked on the tops of my cakes. I had a hard time doing NEAT sidwork that was supposed to look like dainty embroidery. I'm good at doing neat lines on the tops of cakes but gravity is my friend...on the sides, it's another story. How do you do that?!?!

Also, I ended up putting this hokey border on the tops of the cakes and didn't really care because I was so tired!

Such a disappointment...

Will show a picture (maybe) after I get it set up. Have to drive an hour to the venue, so I hope *that* goes okay.

This is a gift for a friend. Why do I do this? lol (Should have sent her some china! icon_wink.gif )

Thanks. Just needed to vent. (Still hoping once the florist gets the flowers on the cake it will look half-way decent.)

I think you are being hard on yourself. Most people can see everything you decribe. Post it and I bet there are things that can be done to repair it. Remember it's just frosting and can be scraped or piped over on top of... I know I have done it millions of times.

I think we ALL feel like that sometimes. I am guilty of spending hours thinking this will be fantastic then dissapointed when I look at it. We are our own worst critic. icon_smile.gif

All I can say is that if you had sent her some china, you'd be sitting there saying, now why didn't Ijust make her a cake?!?!

I just recently tried writing on the side of a cake. I've done a few other things like the grass tip, which that thing is just too easy to use and I've put dots on sides of cakes and I've put some nice scrolls on cakes. I found out while doing the scrolls that a #3/#4 tip was better than a #2. I don't know why...anyway, have you thought about getting one of those turntables that actually tilt? I guess you could put that non-skid stuff on there so your cake won't fall off!

We are our own worst critics!!! Please post a pic and let us know what the bride & groom thought.

Yeah, janethorp, I guess I could scrape the border off and try again; maybe when I get to the venue. Hoping the flowers will hide the cracks! Maybe they'll cascade over the side and hide the border too! icon_wink.gif (Hope the florist brings plenty of flowers!)

mmdd, I needed one of those tilting turntables last night! I used a #2 tip. I actually wanted to use a #1 tip to make it look especially dainty; couldn't find my #1 tip; but no way could I have used it anyway!

Spottydog, thanks. You know how I feel. I had visions of grandeur for this cake. lol I look at all these beautiful cakes here and on the net and convince myself I can do it. lol My hat's off to you gals that cover in fondant; do pearl borders; and paint with highlighter dust! (3 things that took me forever!) I've had my feel of fondant and pearls! I'm ready to go back to all buttercream cakes where all I need is my #3, #18, and #21 tips. lol

Okay, I'm sure I'll get over it and try again; but hopefully not on this scale!
