Hello all
I was looking at te following website for ideas on borders. About halfway down there is a cake with a bunch of shells on it. I really like the borderon top. Is there anybody that can share with me how to do this?
I would also like to learn how to do a ruffle in bc.
Thanks so much!

I believe it is a rope border but I can't do it well so I can't tell you.....you might be able to get directions on the Wilton site.
This border is a stretched-out "S". It's sort of the way they put toothpaste on a toothbrush in commercials. Start with your shell tip on the left (top of the "s"), then curve it down slightly and then immediately up slightly to form the bottom of the "s". Start the next one at the same point, overlapping your ending point on the previous "s". It's really very easy, and just a variation of a tighter "S" shell.
That's the rope border. Try tip #21, or something in that area. Make an "S" curve. Stopa nd pull away. Insert the tip under the bottom of "S" shape. Squeeze the bag as you pull down, then lift up and move over the tail of the "S" as you squeeze and form a hook. Start again.
There are instructions in the Wilton yearbook and I think on their website. Give me a sec and I'll go see.

Here's Wilton's link for basic techniques - I don't know if the rope border is on it, but the BC ruffle is
Is it the s-shaped border that you're talking about? It's kind of hard to explain but start by making a sideways s (running along a border) but so that the middle part of the s is slightly raised. Lift your tip and then start another s in the bottom part of the s (slightly bury your tip in the groove created by lifting the middle part of the 1st s) and create another s. It's basically interlocking "s"-s...that ends up looking like twisted rope. It's my favorite border for basket weave sides.
