Need Help W/ My First Detailed Transfer Cake
Decorating By pyseas Updated 24 Mar 2006 , 6:08am by cakesondemand
I'm VERY, VERY new to cake decorating. Haven't even finished Wilton Course 1...lol
But, my mom would like me to make a birthday cake for my stepdad. He loved his first car, a 1957 Plymouth Fury.
I figured I would do the Piping Gel transfer w/ the image I printed (it's a drawn car, not an actual photo).
My first attempt did not come out so great. I used thin black icing w/ piping gel mixed in. It was waaaay to thin and just bled into the icing.
I've been trying to do research and came across info on doing a BCT. Looks easy, but who knows. So here are my questions:
1. Should I do the piping gel transfer or the BCT?
2. What consistencies should I outline with? Should I use tip 1?
3. What consistencies should I fill in with? Do I need to use a tip to fill in the colors?
4. Should I play it safe and JUST do an outline w/ no filling in?
If anyone can help or give their opinions I'd really appreciate it!
I have done FBCT, piping gel, chocolate transfer, and icing outline......Here is my personal opinion, I love doing chocolate transfers, they are done like FBCT except using candy melts instead of icing. They are very easy and look amazing. 2nd, I did a cake last week where I needed to transfer outline onto a cake to fill in. I used blk icing, laid it on the cake and it worked great. I was using the whipped cream buttercream icing. I'm going to do the same thing tomorrow, but using regular buttercream.
Maybe try that with just a vry small amount of piping gel added. Lastly, if you want to do a FBCT, there is a tutorial on this site under the articles.
I hope this helps and if you have any other questions, feel free to ask. Welcome to Cake Central!!!
