What's everyone's favorite reference guide or favorite book or magazine that you swear by? I wanted to buy a few books and maybe subscribe to a magazine, but I don't know where to start.

Any suggestions would be great!
Thanks everyone.

I really like 'The Cake Bible' by Rose Beranbaum...it was recommended to me by my cake decorating instructor. It's got tonnes of recipes for fondants, icings and cakes, but also has a lot of info on how to bake the perfect cake (all different types) and a bunch of decorating techniques too.

i reread Rose Birenbaum's book over and over. I you love chocolate then Cocolate by Alice Medrich is it. I bake from that book all the time. You can see from that book how a genoise can morph into many other things. Same thing with her sponge cake. For simple decorations but good cakes the books by DeDe Wilson or Watson. Can Never remember. For straight forward baking and pastry Rose L's Bread Bible, Along with Martha Stewarts baking book, King Arthur's Baking Book and Cook's Baking Book. I get all of my books from Amazon. Get Ameican Cake Dec as well as a few from the U.K. Use the site of baking 911 a lot too.

Thank you. I can't wait to do some research. Our local Barnes and Noble has a really good selection of cake decorating books. I was pouring over them yesterday and was overwhelmed with awe. There are some amazing books. I just subscribed to American Decorating today, and I'm really excited about that.

Our instructor has the old Wilton books...big, hard cover ones that are hard to find and they are filled with great borders and different flowers and styles. I want to find a good book like that, and definitely a few great inspiration books. There was a $70 one and the cakes in there were works of are...name eludes me right now...grand cakes...the kind that you can't imagine eating.

Thanks for all the advice. I'm going to be a happy bookworm this weekend!

I absolutely love the Cake Mix Doctor books. I have the original one and the chocolate one. You can't miss with her recipes. I haven't come across a bad recipe yet.
