Has anyone done a scultped corvette cake? I have been asked to do one & she would love it scultped if possible. I only need to feed 15-20 so it does not have to be big. The only thing she has specified is chocolate cake & whipped topping. Will the whipped topping hold up on scultped cakes & used for piping designs. I do not like whipped & rarely get asked to use it so I am clueless.

TIA

I would think it would be very difficult to ice this cake w/ a whipped icing! You're not going to get get a smooth surface. I think buttercream or fondant is a better way to go... !!

I agree... I would just tell her that your limited on what cake and icing you can use for sculpted cakes. I wouldn't use whipped icing and I would use a chocolate pound cake.

As far as sculpting it... I would search for pictures of corvettes online and then make the pictures the same size of the cake. If you do that then you'll know the exact porportions.

Here's a picture of an oder corvette:

Good luck!!

That is what I was thinking. I told her I would probably have to do the corvette as a transfer or maybe mold it out of fondant. The order is from a good friend and I have 3 weeks to practice with the fondant to see if I can get the shape right. Her DH is not a "sweets" person so that is the reason for the whipped topping. Anyone got a good recipe for whipped icing? icon_biggrin.gif

I made my DH a Corvette cake for his 50th birthday. I would have LOVED to do a sculpted cake, but I haven't advanced that far yet! I used a FBCT, pic in my album. Good luck! icon_smile.gif
