I was wondering if anyone is from Lake Charles, LA or anywhere close to here. No reason for asking just wondering if anyone else was close by icon_biggrin.gif

Here is a silly question. I had a good friend who was from Vinton, LA but have lost track of her when she married. Her maiden name was Nanette Sonnier and I don't know her married name. I know we called her mother Ms. Pat, but I cannot remember her fathers name to look it up. I was just wondering if you by some odd chance you would know of this family in Vinton.(I know it's a very small town.) I'd love to find her...it's been almost 15 years. We nannied together in New Jersey and had a lot of good memories together. I know it's a stretch, but thought I would ask.

By the way, Lake Charles was a really neat city. I enjoyed the time I was able to visit there with Nanette.

Thanks!

Hi I'm in Ireland, never been to states and I'm so excited because we're flying out to LA Saturday Fortnight, going to visit Disney, Hollywood etc and then touring for two weeks driving Bryce, Zion, Monument Valley, Grand Canyon, Vegas and then up to Yosemite. Going to be a busy trip I gather but I'm really looking forward to it.

Anyway I'm hi-jacking your thread if you don't mind to ask you, what kind of weather need I expect when I'm packing my holidays clothes?

The only Ms. Pat I knew lived down the road from my grandparents but they live in Iowa, LA. And I dont recall her ever having a husband. But sorry I dont know anyone from Vinton. I hope you find her, I recently went through something like that trying to find a friend and one day I just saw her at Wal-Mart. Good Luck icon_wink.gif

Hi Sparklycake,

I'm in Los Angeles. Our weather is a little cool right now for Southern California, but it can be nicely warm during the day. It will be warm for you coming from Ireland, but can get coolish in the evening. Also, we're having some rain right now (much needed). If you are going up to Vegas, etc., again it probably will be warm during the day but cool at night. You will need a jacket. As for Yosemite, you will need something warm with even possibly a fleece underneath.

As you arrive in LA, I will be returning from UK. I fly out tomorrow (Manchester) for my nephew's wedding and my Mom's 80th birthday.

Have a great trip.
Barbara

Hi Hrg,
I used to live in Lake Charles, for 6 yrs in fact. But I'm in Arizona now. Used to work in the Calcaseau Marine Bank Building in a travel agency there and another travel agency on Ryan St. Just wanted to say HI. icon_smile.gif

Anyway, I know there is another CS'er from Lake Charles but her name is slipping my mind right now.

I live in Baton Rouge. I think that is a few hours away from you. Hla97, I have an office in Houma in the Regions Bank Building. I only come there a couple of times a year. Do ya'll have any cake supply stores around there? I looked for one but couldn't find anything on the main street.

I live in Plaquemine, LA (20 min. south of BR). I am originally from Larose a small town in Lafourche parish. Grew up going to Houma often and my new sister-in-law is from Bourg. The Sugarplum is a great store. My mom took her cake classes there when my brothers and I were little (late 80's). Nice to meet people who are nearby.

My husband told me this morning when he was leaving for work that he was going to Houma! I thought of you! icon_smile.gif

OH my, Plaquemines Parish!! I went to high school at River Oak Academy!. My husband went down there after the storm and he brought back pictures and wow......the one house was in the middle of the highway. Looked like something from the Wizard of Oz! You poor thing.

We made out great considering we did not flood! Major tree damage. We had to get a new roof and fence and loss a car and boat to trees and landscaping to wind (found most of it on the second story roof!). Heard yesterday the weather tower here in Slidell registered winds at 232 mph before it was damaged. WILD, huh!

I never heard of this SugarPlum place! I am going to have to check it out. Do they have a website? I am going to go this weekend to a place called Sweet Stuff, Inc in Biloxi MS. www.sweetstuffinc.com

We need to have a DOS (Day of Sharing) since there are so many people around the Southern LA area. Those ladies in TX and Shreveport have them and they seem like fun!

Hey, it would be so nice for everyone to get together and share ideas, etc. I am certainly open to doing it anywhere within the immediate area. Have no problem going to houma, hammond, etc. Maybe we should really consider this. Maybe meet somewhere once a month at someone's house. What do ya'll think?

How about april 29, 2006. I have a wedding on the 22nd so that's out. Any suggestions on where. Lets see where everyone lives and then maybe we can start at a central location. I live in B.R. Maybe everyone can respond by Tuesday as to their availability and location. I will keep a list and on Wednesday post a reply with who is available and their location and from there we can finalize everything.

Oh, just a thought, if we cannot find a central home to have our DOS..... I wonder if enough ladies are interested we could take a one-day cake decorating or flower making class........... just brainstorming.
