Thanks for the tip! I purposely bought mine in white. All that powdered sugar doesn't show up so much. LOL I DO love the different colored ones, though.

Amazon frequently has great deals on Kitchenaids.

I ordered a 6 qt Pro6 in Pearl Metallic for $174 shipped several months ago...but it was a price mistake and they refused to honor it. Boo hoo!

I frequently refer my cake students to Amazon for Kitchenaids. Around the holidays, you could get the 4.5 qt model in white for $99 shipped.

I love Amazon! My UPS man and I are on a first-name basis because of those big brown boxes he's always bringing. icon_biggrin.gif

Well, I bought one...the 5qt one. I've never used kitchen aid before...which one of their "beaters" is best for icing....it said it comes with three.

I always use the flat beater, the whisk beater puts too much air into buttercream.

In December I bought a Factory Reconditioned Accolade(tilt head) from Amazon in Lemongrass Green for 149.00 shipped!! I AM IN LOVE!! That tv commercial where the woman is talking baby talk to her KA is not that silly--I have actually hugged mine icon_biggrin.gif .

For me the tilt-head is much easier to use, so even though it is a little smaller than the Pro Series I got at Costco, I can still do a triple batch of buttercream (3 lbs sugar) easily. And it's much more practical for smaller amounts, say a single cake mix.

I was a little worried about it being used, but the only little things I've noticed is a little dimple on the head, and the speed control lever is a little stiff. I can live with that for 179.00 savings; just haven't gotten around to hitting it with a little WD40.

So I still have the Pro for big batches of cookies, but I haven't used it since I got the Accolade. I am extremely pleased with the Amazon transaction!!

Regards,

Gail[/img]

Does anyone know how many batches of icing I will be able to make in my "soon to arrive" mixer? I got the 5 qt. kitchenaid mixer.

I have a smaller mixer now, can't remember, but think it's a 3 qt, and I can only make one batch at a time (1 lb. of powd. sugar) I actually tried to do 2 batches once, but black stuff started coming out of where you put the "beater" in....took it back and got another one......

mmdd -- I have the KA Artisan 5 qt and I can make a double batch of frosting (2 lbs of sugar) with no problem. Mix it with the paddle attachment, rather than the whisk, or you'll have bubbles in your icing.

Congrats on your purchase -- you'll love it!!

I am hearing all this stuff about Kitchenaid and I really want one. Problem is I just bought a Sunbeam in January. I like it and all but it didn't come with a paddle attachment. Is Kitchenaid the only brand that you can use a paddle attachment with or can I buy one for my Sunbeam? I would approach my husband with the idea of buying a Kitchenaid but he thought I was silly for paying what I did for the Sunbeam.

Hey, KarenOR

Thanks so much for the tip on the KitchenAid. I was looking to buy a bigger one, and thanks to you, it's on it's way.

Just in case anyone did not see the accessories, the bowls for the 5-qt professional model (the one I got) are also on sale for $39.99, which is $15-20 less than in the retail stores!

Accessories are on sale, too. The pouring shield, covers, and attachment kit are all discounted.

Thanks again!

Here you go, kiddo. I don't know how to post a hyperlink to this site, so here is the URL. Just copy and paste.

Now, mmdd, don't cry, just tell us wassamatta, and we'll try to help. The Sunbeam does not come with a paddle attachment. The closest you will get to paddle is to use the small bowl that comes with it. It is a great all-around mixer, but it works more like a hand mixer, so anything you do with it, you have to do for a longer time than you would with a KitchenAid or Viking. I had my mother's Sunbeam, and it lasted 40 years before finally dieing a smoky, noisy death. Had I known there was a guy in GA who refurbs them, it would still be sitting on my kitchen counter. Paula Deen has done literally everything in her Sunbeam on her show, but you would have to go directly to her recipe file on the website to get more specific information on how long to beat different ingredients, then adapt them to your recipe and needs.

I recently purchased the metallic KA Artisan 5qt. from a special I saw on T.V. I recieved the mixer w/ the 3 attachements, pour/splash shield,2 cookbooks, 5piece set of spatulas and can opener...veggie peeler etc, and I got to choose between the pasta maker which has a flat sheet...spagetti and fettucini cutter or a ice cream bowl (I choose the pasta maker). Anyway everything was $299. I love it!!!!!!!

Thank you for letting me know that!! I'm so glad to hear about this paddle attachment and the lack of air bubbles. I have a sunbeam, and while I love it....I'm looking forward to getting this kitchen aid, and seeing your name, Jay, which is also my hubby's name, reminds me that I forgot to tell him that I bought one. LOL

The kitchenaid web site http://shopkitchenaid.com/sub_category.asp?HDR=OUTLET&CAT=outletrefurb&. has a wonderful refurbished section. Many times shipping is free. I purchased a refurbed hand mixer when I burned out my old hand held (not Kitchenaid). I purchased a handheld "7" for $39.00 which was about 1/2 of the new purchase price. The mixer was delivered in about 5 business days. Just another option for those looking for refurbished.
