Hi everyone! You know the color flow picket fence that was done on the wilton course II basketweave cake? I was wondering if I could get some flowers to stick to that, like their trailing down the fence? Does anyone know if or how it could be done, or even if it would work. I'm not sure if they would stick to it and hold. Was thinking maybe even put the flowers on the fencing before it dried all the way? Do you think that may work? I have an idea for what I want to do for my nieces birthday on Friday, I have to get busy lol! Thanks everyone
If the flowers are not too large, they will stick using a bit of royal just fine. You might have to hold it in place a moment or two while the icing dries.
That's the way I did my picket fence. I used royal icing and they did just fine. I also put some green vines and leaves in buttercream. If I ever figure out how to post more pictures, i'll show you.
I would be worried too, but then again I don't have much experience YET
Can you maybe stick the flowers on using royal icing after you peel the backing off and before you stand the fence upright? And leave it for a few minutes to harden?
Or am I being too cautious?
I piped leaves and vines and stuck my flowers into the fresh buttercream. They stuck just fine.
you can put the flowers on with royal icing or a small dab of buttercream..that;s what I did when I made mine..
I would think yes too! I would let it dry a full 24 hours
BTW~
Have you seen the flower cake by witlon?
it's called" It's Growing Season"?
they use cookies as a picket fence instead of all Royal icing. it's very cute!

I think I've seen that in one of the yearbooks now that I see it Is there a picture of trailing flowers coming off the fence on this site, I really never even checked, I'm going to do that! I knew I could use royal icing or buttercream to stick the flowers on the cake, but I want to put some of them directly on the fence, I just wasn't sure if it would hold them. But yeah, I guess as long as I use smaller flowers they might hold alright. I'll just have to make sure their not very heavy. I won't try to stick like a big royal icing rose to the top of the fence post lol! Thanks everyone !! I still have more planning to do for it, but I'll post it when it's done and let everyone know if it worked! I have to think of a back-up just incase my flowers fall off the fence lol
