Been reading and reading all sorts of stuff about cakes, recipes and various frosting etc. I keep seeing this "torting".....what is it? As I said before I am NOT a baker....ALL of this stuff is new to me. I know to level a ckae by using a knife of sewing thread but what is this torting?
I remember my mom and nana used to always turn the cake upside down before frosting and so I do too....is that right?

torting is simply cutting your cake in half long way kinda like this; [-------------] so you can make layers and fill them with either frosting or fillings I always turn my cakes upside down to frost them. alway like the level "playing" field.
